  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 1 room-temperature egg
  • 1/2 tsp all spice powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Step 1

In a jug, combine 3/4 cup of warm milk, 2 tsp of yeast, and 1/3 cup of sugar. Mix well and keep it aside for 10 minutes. Next, in a bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp of allspice powder. Mix well to combine. Now, back to your yeast mixture, add 1 tsp vanilla essence, 1 egg, and 1/4 cup butter. Mix well, add this to the dry ingredients mixture, and continue mixing till a dough forms, then knead to become smooth and soft. After this, apply oil to your hands and tuck the dough. Apply oil to the bowl also and place the dough in the center. Cover it with a cling wrap and place it in a warm place for one hour. After an hour, punch down the air from the dough and knead it for a couple of minutes.

Step 2

Next, flatten the dough and add 1/3 raisins in the center. Knead the dough to incorporate the raisins. After this, cut the dough into eight equal portions and roll them into smooth balls. Place the buns in a lined baking tray and let them rest in a warm place for an hour. Meanwhile, add 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour to a bowl and add water little by little while mixing to make a smooth paste. Back to the buns, make a cross design on top of each bun with the prepared paste. Now, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F for 10 minutes, then place the buns and bake them for 20 to 25 minutes. After baking, brush the top of each bun with melted butter.
